The IZN was founded in 1953 by Bent Jørgensen as a magazine for the exchange of news, information and ideas between the zoos and the aquariums of the world.
The IZN remains an independent international forum for zoos, animal husbandry and conservation activities. It has published over 1,300 top quality full articles on virtually every topic important to the zoo community and is a respected reservoir of valuable research material.
Acquired in 2017 by the International Zoo Enthusiasts Society (IZES), this publication continues in conjunction with Zoo Grapevine. We have many back issues available, please contact us for issue numbers and prices.
Founded in 1995 the Independent Zoo Enthusiasts Society is a group of like-minded supporters of the world's best zoos and aquariums. We believe that zoos are interesting in themselves, not just as conservational vessels (however important that function may be). Therefore, we take an interest in animal husbandry techniques, zoo history, zoos around the world, zoo ephemera and, indeed any aspect of wild animals in human care. This is probably best reflected in our quarterly magazine Zoo Grapevine and International Zoo News and in our published books.
